Trail Description
PR 3.1 Caminho Real do Monte follows a historic route between Ribeira das Cales and the parish of Monte. Along the way it meets the old Levada das Cales, wooded areas of the Funchal Ecological Park, the Pico Alto viewpoint and cultivated terraces above the city. The walk blends heritage, levada scenery and broad views over Funchal Bay before arriving near Monte's historic centre. It is a compact route with some steeper stretches, well suited to walkers interested in nature close to Funchal.
