Trail Description
PR 27 Glaciar de Planalto explores the Paul da Serra plateau from the Bica da Cana area, focusing on Madeira's unusual glacial and volcanic geology. Along the route walkers can observe landforms associated with an ancient plateau ice field, including U-shaped valleys, erosion basins, moraines and the Faja Redonda cirque. The scenery is open, windswept and very different from forested levada trails, with broad views over valleys and highland heath. It is a distinctive route for geology-minded hikers.
