Trail Description
PR 12 Caminho Real da Encumeada follows part of an old royal road from Boca da Corrida toward Encumeada, beneath Madeira's central peaks. The route preserves sections of stone paving and reflects a historic cross-island connection once used by travellers, traders and pack animals. It offers views over Curral das Freiras, pastureland, high mountain slopes and areas of taller vegetation. The walk blends cultural history with central-massif scenery and is best enjoyed at a steady pace, especially where the old path is uneven.
