Vereda da Encumeada

PR 1.3 Vereda da Encumeada follows the central ridge west from the Pico Ruivo area toward Encumeada. This long mountain route crosses two of Madeira's defining habitats: exposed volcanic highland and pockets of ancient Laurissilva forest. Hikers are rewarded with views toward both the north and south coasts, plus a strong sense of travelling through the island's backbone. The distance, uneven ground and exposed sections make it best suited to well-prepared walkers with time and stamina.

PR 1.3 Vereda da Encumeada is a linear trail on Madeira, covering 11.2 km, with an estimated walking time of 5 hours. It runs from Casa de Abrigo do Pico Ruivo to Encumeada. Altitude ranges from 1009 m to 1764 m.
