Vereda da Ilha

PR 1.1 Vereda da Ilha descends from the Pico Ruivo area toward the village of Ilha, moving from bare mountain ridges into humid Laurissilva forest. The trail is known for its dramatic loss of altitude, changing vegetation and wide views across Madeira's central massif before entering greener valley scenery. It is a rewarding point-to-point hike for walkers with good fitness, especially those who want to experience the contrast between Madeira's high peaks and its north-coast forest landscapes.
